How to create those timeless images that you can share for 20 years to come you ask?
Well this is just a guide that I follow to make any couple shoot successful and in my opinion it has a lot to do with the person behind the lens.
Okay so let's begin at the start...the person behind the lens to make the magic happen. I am a firm believer that you need to be super comfortable with the person behind the lens, seeing as that is the person that will put you at ease to be yourself. Yes their magic that they create will look epic, but in order to be yourself and reflect the true you in those pictures - well that definitely has to do with the photographer.
With that said, every couple is different and I honestly won't feel offended if you don't choose me to capture you as a couple. But if you are a person that feel at ease when given a little bit of direction (cause I know we are not all models), feel at ease when someone talks to them or just want to have a good time - I am your person.
How to explain it in a short and sweet manner? The photos speak for themselves basically -go have a look here.
My belief is that every person's uniqueness should be captured in a frame

STEP 1: THE LOCATION/ACTIVITY
Let's get to wardrobe first. You shouldn’t try to fit in with your location, try to stand out. For example if the shoot is in a forest try a red dress paired with a chino pants and checked shirt for your partner. This will make you stand out rather than blend in with the background.
Then choosing the perfect location/activity for the shoot is obviously important. If you are surfers, the beach will be perfect. If you go for picnic's in the park, why not do something like that for the couple shoot? You know your other half will be comfortable PLUS you know you will be having a good time.
A few examples:
- Go to the beach and have sunset drinks
- Take the dogs for a walk in the forest
- Make pancakes at home
STEP 2: HAIR & MAKEUP
This is definitely one of the most important thing for ladies to understand. Makeup is very important, if you don’t wear any, please try to stick it out for an hour. Makeup artist’s have been trained to bring out your best features and really make it POP.
Let a professional handle this part and try to book your trial for your wedding on the day of your engagement shoot. It will give you more confidence and create that MAGIC factor you want in your photos.
STEP 3: COORDINATE & COMPLIMENT
Remember that opposites atract and sometimes it is actually a good idea to wear together.
One partner can be wearing something bold that will make a statement while the other wears more natural colours to complement one another and not be sight for sore eyes.
Try incorporating the colour of your wedding for the engagement shoot, then you can use the photos for your Save the Dates or even use them on your wedding day without them looking out of place.

"Jana is one incredible photographer and person! She managed to take two people who are very awkward and uncomfortable in front of a camera and make us feel so relaxed - and it shows in the photos! Each photo is so natural, beautiful and truly spectacular! Thank you for being so fantastic!" - Mandi & Tiaan

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF THE DAY TO DO A COUPLE SHOOT?
I absolutely love the light that late afternoon/sunset shoots have to offer. It is the ultimate light that just creates magic. So try to rather aim for this - I promise you won't be disappointed.

BE PRESENT
So you paid for this...and now here we are. Forget about the boss that made your day hell, be present. You are about to spend 45min + together just the two of you without any distractions and in some cases this might be your engagement shoot, a little trial run before the big day.
I am ultimately a professional third wheeler running around and trying to capture the epic moments.
